Purdue Student Government Announces 2026 Student Body Elections, New Three-Person Ticket Structure and Expanded Candidate Networking Opportunities

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN. — Purdue Student Government (PSG) is inviting students across West Lafayette and Indianapolis to take part in the 2026 Student Body Elections, a process designed to ensure fair representation, informed voting, and equitable participation for all Purdue students.

The annual PSG election allows students to shape the future of student advocacy, campus programming, and institutional decision-making. Governed by comprehensive election rules and overseen by multiple accountability bodies, the 2026 election prioritizes transparency, professionalism, and student trust. All election rules are publicly available through PSG channels, such as the PSG website (purduesg.org) to ensure every student has access.

A Unified Three-Person Presidential Ticket

One of the defining features of the 2026 election is the required three-person presidential ticket. Students running for executive office will campaign as a single, unified ticket consisting of a Student Body President, a Vice President representing the West Lafayette location, and a Vice President representing Purdue Indianapolis. This structure is designed to strengthen collaboration across Purdue locations and ensure that student voices from both campuses are represented at the highest level of student government.

Steps to Candidacy

To file for candidacy, students must meet all requirements for holding office as stated in the Regulations for Recognized Student Organizations: Requirements for Members, Officers, and Advisors. Executive presidential tickets must receive at least 1,000 signatures, with a minimum of 150 of those signatures from the Indianapolis location. Senatorial tickets must meet their respective college’s signature thresholds as well, reinforcing the principle that representatives are chosen by—and accountable to—the communities they serve.

More information on this process for interested students can be found in the official Election Rules published on PSG’s website and at an in-person or virtual callout.

Introducing Expanded Networking and Engagement Opportunities

To support informed candidacy and accessible participation, the Elections Committee is introducing enhanced networking and communication opportunities. One networking platform is through an informal Padlet, meant to allow interested individuals to share their platforms and meet other potential candidates without formally declaring for candidacy. Additionally, the Elections Committee will host multiple callouts across West Lafayette, Indianapolis, and virtually.

Key Dates for the 2026 Election

All callouts will take place for interested candidates from 6 to 7 p.m. at the following dates and locations for interested students. Callouts in West Lafayette will take place on February 5 in LILY3118 and February 9 in WALCB058, Indianapolis callouts on February 6 and 10 in ET103 and an online option on February 11.

The petitioning period, where candidates collect signatures, opens on February 23, with petitions due by March 11. Campaigning officially begins on March 24, and voting will take place from March 30 through April 2. Election results are expected to be released on April 10, pending the resolution of any grievances.

PSG encourages all eligible students to consider running for office, supporting candidates, or casting their vote. Participation in the student government election is one of the most direct ways Purdue students can influence policies, advocate for their peers, and help shape the campus experience.

For full election rules, timelines, and updates, students can visit the Purdue Student Government website or follow PSG on official social media platforms.
