Green Week at Purdue

Purdue Student Government, the Sustainability Working Group, and the Boiler Green Organizations Coalition will celebrate Green Week 2025 on Oct. 18-25. Events listed below are open to the West Lafayette campus community, including students, faculty and staff. Registration is not required unless otherwise noted.

The West Lafayette campus celebrates Green Week – a campus initiative to promote and share sustainable practices – in October with a variety of free events that are open to the campus community.

Events

  • October 13th - 26th

    Join the John Martinson Honors College as we keep the cycle of environmental sustainability going and run a clothing drive. Drop off clean, used clothing for upcycling or recycling in donation boxes located in Indianapolis and West Lafayette.

  • Saturday, October 18th

    De-Trash the Wabash: De-Trash the Wabash is a biannual volunteer event focused on removing trash and restoring the health of the mighty Wabash River. Volunteers walk in parks and along trails near the river, removing abandoned bikes, old appliances, tires, clothing, traffic cones, and other debris in order to improve water quality. This event will take place from 9 a.m - 12 p.m.

    Nature Craft Time: Join SCEE infront of Ag Admin to make nature tote bags printed with leaves and plaster casts of animal prints!

    Thrifting Social: Join Purdue Student Sustainability Council to thrift stores off campus to discourage fast fashion.

    Attend West Lafayette Go Greener Commission Meeting. Join their meetings to receive updates, voice concerns, provide opinions etc.​

    The Commission meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6 pm at the West Lafayette Public Library, Walnut Room (208 W Columbia St, West Lafayette). Please contact Lindsey Payne at paynel@purdue.edu for virtual meeting details. All meetings are open to the public.

    Join the SEC for Solar Powered Popcorn from 11 AM - 2 PM!

  • Wednesday, October 22nd

    Silver house, the Hi-Fi lab, and HonorServes of the John Martinson Honors College are holding a pumpkin carving event. Students will not be able to carve pumpkins they can keep, but can have fun in the action. The pumpkins will be donated to NICHES Land Trust for its 2025 Jack-O'-Lantern Hike fundraiser. A limited number of pumpkins will be available.

    Fall Into Nature: Join the Purdue Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR) for an engaging evening at Horticulture Park on Thursday, October 23rd from 4-7 PM, featuring guided nature hikes and a variety of other fun nature-related activities. Food will be provided. Vegetarian and vegan options available. This event is open to all members of the Purdue community.

  • Purdue Student Government

    Serving as the primary representative organization of the undergraduate student body, Purdue Student Government seeks to act as a liaison between the Purdue University administration, governmental authorities, and the student body in order to serve the needs of Purdue students and to enhance the student experience at Purdue University. In support of this mission, Purdue Student Government is dedicated to: 1) Encouraging initiatives that address the concerns of the student body and future prosperity of Purdue University and Purdue Student Government, and 2) Defending the rights, interests, and voices of the student body.

  • Purdue Campus Sustainability Working Group (SWG)

    Purdue Campus Sustainability Working group, coordinated by the Institute for a Sustainable Future, includes representatives from faculty, student, and staff members from across the university. Since August 2024, it has engaged the campus community to evaluate current efforts, undertake efforts to improve campus communication about sustainability, and recommend actions that can strengthen campus and community resilience.

  • Boiler Green Organization Coalition

    The mission of this coalition is to create a connected, stable, efficient, and effective sustainability community on the Purdue campus where students, faculty, staff, and administration collaborate through the coalition.

  • Purdue John Martinson Honors College

    Currently ranked among the top 20 honors colleges nationally in College Transitions, Purdue's Honors College recently became the John Martinson Honors College. Martinson supports new programmatic initiatives which promote undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity, leadership and professional development, global and community engagement, and innovative pedagogies

    Purdue’s Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR) is one of the leading natural resources programs in the nation. FNR is Indiana’s only degree-granting, research and extension institution in the fields of forestry, wildlife ecology and aquatic sciences.

    Adamah is the largest Jewish environmental advocacy group in North America. We help people connect to the environment as a part of their Jewish Identity but everyone is welcome to participate!

  • Thomas Say Entomological Society

    Thomas Say Entomological Society is Purdue's only bug club. We host a variety of meetings centered around arthropods and help with entomology events on campus such as Bug Bowl

    ANS advocates for nuclear energy and sustainability across Purdue's campus as well as on a national level
